Leadership today is more demanding than ever. Between endless pressure, rigid corporate structures, and the constant hustle, many leaders feel trappedin a system that drains their energy instead of multiplying it. With his newbook, „The Liberation Leader“, author Stefan Goetz provides a powerfulframework to break free from these old patterns and lead with authenticimpact, clarity, and true freedom.

The corporate world is filled with traditional leadership books, yet many managers still feel stuck and overwhelmed. What was the exact tipping  point or personal realization that made you say: „I need to write ‚The Liberation Leader‘ right now, because this perspective is missing“?

The tipping point was not a strategy insight. It was a life moment. In June 2022, when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor and lung tumors, the illusion of control collapsed overnight. I realized that the leadership tools we usually rely on – more pressure, more planning, more control – often fail exactly when life and business become truly complex. I wrote The Liberation Leader because I felt leaders need amore effective, human, clear, and courageous way to lead when the old system no longer works.

A book that approaches leadership in such a consistent and refreshing way usually turns old patterns upside down. Without giving away too much: Is there a specific chapter or core insight where you thought,“Once leaders truly grasp this, their daily corporate life and team dynamic will change instantly“?

The core insight is radical acceptance combined with radical accountability. When leaders stop fighting reality, blaming the system, or pretending certainty exists, an enormous amount of energy is released. That energy can become clarity, presence, and action. Once a leader understands this, meetings change immediately: less drama, less defense, more truth, cleaner decisions, and a stronger sense of shared responsibility.

When executives, founders, or managers finish the final page of „TheLiberation Leader“ and close the book, what is the exact feeling, mindset, or immediate action you want them to carry into their next team meeting?

I want them to walk into the next meeting with one simple inner shift: I do not need to control everything to lead clearly. The immediate action is to pause, name reality honestly, listen more deeply, and ask: What is the truth here – and what is now the next courage ousstep? That is where liberation begins: not in escape, but in presence, responsibility, and aligned action.

„The Liberation Leader“ feels incredibly authentic and practical. How much of your own personal journey, including the struggles, self-doubt, and major breakthroughs you experienced in your career, is woven into these pages?

A great deal of my personal journey is woven into the book. Notas autobiography for its own sake, but as lived evidence. My cancer diagnosis, my fear, my surrender, my inner work, and my healing journey all became a leadership laboratory. After more than 7,000 executive coaching sessions, I had seen many leaders under pressure. Then life put me under the highest pressure myself. The book comes from that intersection: deep personal transformation and practical executive reality.

There are countless leadership coaches and theories out there, but every impactful guide carries the unique signature of its creator. What would you say is your personal „superpower“ as an author that allows you to connect with leaders on a deeper, more human level?

My superpower is that I can meet leaders beyond the role, beyond the title, and beyond the polished success story. I listen for the human being behind the performance. Many executives are brilliant, but exhausted by the invisible burden they carry. I help them reconnect with inner clarity, truth, and courage – without losing business focus. That is where real transformation becomes possible.

If you could sit down for a quick cup of coffee with a leader who is currently on the verge of burnout, feeling completely trapped by corporate politics, what is the single most liberating piece of advice from your book you would give them today?

Stop fighting the wave. First, accept what is real – without resignation. Then take full responsibility for your next clean step. Burnout often begins when we keep pushing against reality while abandoning ourselves inside. Liberation starts when you stop performing strength and begin leading from truth. One honest pause can change the whole direction.

Writing a book that challenges status-quo thinking can be quite a journey. During the process of writing „The Liberation Leader“, was there a particular moment, example, or chapter that was especially emotionalor surprisingly challenging for you to put into words?

The most emotional part was writing about the moment when control stopped working in my own life. To describe the diagnosis, the fear, and the inner shift without making it dramatic or self-centered was deeply challenging. I wanted the story to serve the reader. The question was always: How can my most vulnerable moment become useful for a leader facing chaos in the boardroom, in the market, or inside themselves?

What does the daily routine of a leadership expert turned author look like? Did „The Liberation Leader“ come to life in a highly structured, strategic office setting, or do you need a bit of creative chaos, travel, and absolute silence to let your thoughts flow?

The book came to life through a mixture of structure, silence, and creative intensity. I need clear thinking, but not a sterile process. Some ideas came in deep focus at the desk, others while walking, traveling, reflecting after coaching sessions, or sitting in silence. My bestwriting happens when the mind is precise, the heart is open, and I stoptrying to force the answer.

Your readers will certainly be eager to implement these strategies. Are you already working on a next step, a workbook, or perhaps a hidden project in the background that you can share with our audience today as an exclusive first sneak peek?

Yes. The next step is the practical expansion of The Liberation Leader: a toolkit, leadership diagnostics, executive coaching formats, and retreats that help leaders embody the principles in real decisions, teams, and organizations. The hidden project is really the next movement: turning liberation from an inspiring idea into a daily leadership practice – clear, human, courageous, and measurable in impact.
